EVENT INFORMATION
San Diegans of all ages are invited to take part in a unique tour of the world-famous San Diego Zoo before it opens to the public. Surprises await you on the walk route as you pass by many animal exhibits with Zoo residents such as flamingos, koalas, elephants and of course our world famous pandas! Each registered walk participant will receive an event T-shirt, goodie bag and free entry to the Zoo on Saturday, October 10, 2009. After the walk, enjoy refreshments, unique animal encounters presented by Joan Embery, keeper talks, live entertainment, as well as a special expo with many sponsor and vendor booths.
EVENT DETAILS
This year’s 4th annual event will focus on raising funds for a major conservation effort to address the global polar bear extinction crisis. In 2008, polar bears were officially listed as an endangered species. Because of global warming, scientists predict two-thirds of their global population could disappear within the next fifty years. Rising temperatures are literally melting the ice beneath their paws, drastically reducing their habitat and food supply.
WHY WALK?
The San Diego Zoo is committed to ensuring the survival of polar bears, and are already an active force in polar bear conservation. Now, we are taking our efforts to the next level by partnering with Polar Bear International to reverse this chilling trend. It is our goal to inspire change by educating and motivating families and children to take action that will protect and nurture the natural world both now and in the years to come. We invite you to join us in fund-raising for this worthwhile cause in 2009!

Immediately following the walk enjoy free refreshments, informative exhibits, fun activities and entertainment.

WALK LOCATION AND DISTANCE
The walk starts and finishes and all pre and post event activities take place on the lawn of the War Memorial Building located on Zoo Drive north of the Zoo entrance. The walk route is approximately three miles and takes walkers through the world famous San Diego Zoo.
