EVENT DETAILS
San Diegans, of all ages and backgrounds, will have the opportunity to take part in a unique tour of the world-renowned San Diego Zoo before it opens to the public. Walkers will pass by many animal exhibits and be greeted by park inhabitants such as flamingos, koalas, hippos, and of course, our world famous celebrity pandas! Each walker will be given an event t-shirt and goodie bag, and after their walk; they will be treated to healthy refreshments, live entertainment, unique animal encounters and keeper talks, and will be invited to attend a special expo with multiple sponsor and vendor booths.

Be among the more than 3,500 participants  expected to attend this exciting event! Walk on the Wild Side lets you take advantage of this unique opportunity to stroll through the world famous San Diego Zoo before it opens to the public. Enjoy an opportunity to meet Joan Embery and animal friends. All registered walkers will be given an event t-shirt and goodie bag and FREE admission to the Zoo valid for the day of the event. All event participants will be treated to post-event refreshments and activities after the walk.

Please Note: Wheelchairs, baby joggers, and strollers are welcome, but no rollerskates, rollerblades or skateboards. An alternate shortened course with no hills is also available.

For the safety of our animals, pets are not allowed to participate on the walk.

WALK LOCATION AND DISTANCE
The walk starts and finishes on Zoo Drive near the entrance to the San Diego Zoo located at 2920 Zoo Drive, San Diego, CA 92112. The walk route is approximately three miles and takes walkers through the world famous San Diego Zoo.

PREREGISTRATION EVENT
Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the preregistration event to pick up your T-shirt and bib number before event day. New registrations will be taken at this event.

BENEFICIARY
This year’s 3rd annual event will be focused on raising funds for the 2008 Year of the Frog campaign to mark a major conservation effort to address the amphibian extinction crisis. Frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians are going extinct. In fact, the World Conservation Union estimates that at least one-third of known amphibian species are threatened with extinction. While the major culprit has historically been habitat loss and degradation, many of the declines and extinctions are now being attributed to a rapidly dispersing infectious disease, which is causing population and species extinctions at an alarming rate.

The Zoological Society of San Diego is committed to ensuring the survival of all amphibian species and we are already an active force in amphibian conservation. Now, we are taking our efforts to the next level by engaging the public in learning about and supporting our critical work to prevent amphibian extinction. We cordially invite you to join us in supporting this unique and worthwhile cause in 2008.

All pledges made online or received in the mail by November 12, 2008 will be eligible for prizes.
